Sharing the Gospel in Someone's Heart Language

People are most open to Jesus in the language of their heart. Here's how everyday Christians use digital tools to meet them there — from an Uber ride to a WhatsApp thread.

There’s a difference between hearing about Jesus and hearing about Jesus in the language you dream in. In his 2025 session, Miheret Eshete — who leads digital strategy for the Jesus Film Project — kept returning to one simple practice: meet people in their heart language, and watch ordinary moments turn into gospel conversations.

Why heart language changes everything

A clip in a stranger’s own tongue does something a translated tract can’t — it says you are seen. Miheret tells of pulling up the Jesus Film app to play a scene in Pashto for an Afghan driver, and in an Ethiopian man’s tribal language at a Kansas bus station — a man who gave his life to Christ on the bus that followed. The tool didn’t do the work. It opened the door for a real conversation.

The harvest is already searching

This isn’t theory. Around 200 people every second search online for answers about God. During one Palm Sunday-to-Easter week, the Jesus Film Project’s YouTube content was watched 23.5 million times. The demand is enormous and the seekers are self-identifying — they’re typing the questions out loud.

A simple pattern you can copy

  • Carry the tools. Free apps like the Jesus Film app and a simple gospel presentation (e.g. GodTools) put heart-language media in your pocket. Be ready to share one when a moment opens.
  • Start with a question, not a pitch. A genuine “Where are you from?” often gets you further than any script.
  • Give a next step, not just a view. Passive viewers become disciples when you add a clear, contextual invitation — Miheret’s team saw tens of thousands of organic clicks and thousands of follow-up chats by adding “next steps” to videos.
  • Disciple where they are. Some of the richest fruit is self-led: people who found Christ on YouTube and now disciple hundreds of others across WhatsApp groups.

You don’t need fluency in a hundred languages. You need to carry the gospel in someone else’s, and be willing to press play.

Be part of the next gathering.
